A little gem..."(Harvey Wang's New York is) a little gem that celebrates the obscure New Yorkers who represent the city's diversity..." -Entertainment Weekly.
"Wang's photos are direct, arresting, even soulful, and his character's stories are surprisingly poignant...No matter how many millions of stories are in the Naked City, these are sure to linger in your mind." - Los Angeles Times .
'I can conceive of Harvey Wang's New York as readily as Liebling's, Walt Whitman's or Edith Wharton's...(the book is the product ) of a man who, like Balzac, intuitively understands the primacy of work in the lives of working people." -Albany Sunday Times Union.

Haudenosaunee: Portraits of the Firekeepers, the Onondaga Nation
Published in Hardcover by Syracuse Univ Pr (Trade) (June, 1999)
Average review score:

Portraits of contemporary Onondaga people of the IroquoisThis is an extraordinary collection of 78 moving and culturally sensitive photographs, with an historically illustrative accompanying text, of members of the Onondaga Nation of the People of the Longhouse, the Haudenosaunee (Iroquois). Emanating from each individual or group portrait is a feeling of dignity, beauty, courage, resolve, and hope which mirror the long history of native people's struggles to retain and pass on to their children and grandchildren their rich heritage of living on the earth with wisdom and responsibility. Developed as a project with the full cooperation of the subjects themselves, and photographed in the old Longhouse on the Onondaga Nation Territory near Syracuse, NY in 1991/92, this is a remarkable and beautiful visual and historical record of survival.

Hiking New Hampshire, 2nd Edition
Published in Paperback by Falcon Publishing Company (April, 2001)
Average review score:

Hiking New Hampshire: A Welcome Guide for NH HikersThis is a fine book, with much to offer the novice and dedicated hiker alike. Pletcher's work offers guidance for hiking throughout the state of NH. He has somehow managed to narrow his analysis to 100 fine hikes, which promise adventure into all levels of hiking. While it in no way matches the depth of pure trail knowledge one finds in the AMC guide, it instead offers unique, intimate and eloquent analysis of 100 hikes. Each hike is highlighted with its own map, as well as a chart to graph elevation gains. Also, each trail's difficulty and length are assessed and special attractions unique to the hike are noted. Pletcher is clearly proficient in his knowledge of these trails and, more importantly, adept at putting that knowledge into compact summaries for the benefit of would-be hikers. A must addition to one's hiking library. Ernest M. Berube
